Nathaniel Garrow Butler was born on Sept. 23, 1881, in Liberty, Amite County, Mississippi. He was the oldest son of Decatur Noonan Butler Jr. and Susan "Susie" Garnetta Harrell Butler.


His siblings were Thomas Harrell Butler, George Bently Butler, Lorena "Rena" Butler Jones, William Lester Butler, David Homer Butler, Myrt Butler, and half siblings, Roy and Warren Wilkinson.


In the early 1900's the family relocated to Texas. Nathan married Miss Ida Maycie Armstrong on August 8, 1905 in Johnson, Texas. They were the parents of 5 children; Gladys E. Butler Murtland, Edward Everett Butler, Doris Marie Butler Heyman, Forrest Talmadge Butler, and Raymond Eugene "Tim" Butler.


Nathan worked as a Switchman for the Railroad and then a Real Estate salesman in Texas. The family relocated to Los Angeles in the mid 1920's were Nathan worked as an automobile salesman.


He died at the age of 81 on October 3, 1962 in Van Nuys, Los Angeles County, California.
