He was born July 29, 1942 in Elm Springs, Arkansas to James Harley and Margaret (Patton) Baird.
Gerard was a 1960 graduate of Springdale High School.
He drove for Willis Shaw until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1964. Gerard proudly served his country for two years.
Gerard married Judith Hicks on May 6, 1967 in Wagoner, Oklahoma.
He worked for Rockwell International Electronics, for a few years. Gerard began purchasing dump trucks and running loads for various companies and individuals. He drove for Jones Truck Lines from 1973 until 1991.
When JTL sold, he came home to run the family farm. He loved gardening and had many farm animals he tended to and enjoyed. Gerard liked tinkering with old cars and still had his 1955 Chevy. He was a loving husband, father and grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Buddy Lindell Baird, and James Richard Baird (infant); and one sister, Lynda Strode.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy of Pryor, Oklahoma; and their daughter, Roxanne Ferm (and her husband, Kent) of Rogers, Arkansas; brother-in-law, Gary Strode of Owasso; and sister-in-law, Martha Graysiver of Pryor; two loving grandchildren, Madelyn, and Kendall Ferm; nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 noon, on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Elm Springs Cemetery in Elm Springs, Arkansas, with Reverend Barry Chupp officiating.
Family greeting will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, October 10, 2016 at Shipman Funeral Home in Wagoner, Oklahoma.
