Smoaks - Dr John Francis Coleman, 83, died Friday in St Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Ga, after a brief illness.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 pm Sunday in St Nicholas Lutheran Church cemetery near Fairfax.
Dr Coleman was graduated from the University of Georgia Medical College in Augusta, Ga in 1902 and began practice in Olar that same year. He has practiced continuously in the lower part of the state since that time.
He was a Mason, a member of the Medical Society and the Smoaks Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs Gladys Williams Thompson Coleman, six daughters, Mrs Erma Coleman McCullen of Kingston, NC, Mrs Elizabeth Coleman Arnold of Birmingham, Alabama, Mrs Francena Coleman Plough of Charleston, Mrs Zenith Coleman Hartz of Ridgeland, Mrs Jenny Coleman Galloway of Latta, and Mrs Ethel Coleman Epperson of Atlanta, Ga; two stepsons, Marion Thompson of Paris Island and Irvin Thompson of Charleston; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Wylie Coleman of Chester, Mrs Margaret Coleman Robinson of Blackstock and Mrs Minnie Coleman Tinnant of Chester.
The body will be at the Ott Funeral Home.
