Raymond Eugene Valentine, 86, went home on October 11, 2016.
He was born on January 14, 1930 in Seneca County to Annabelle (McClure) and Clarence Valentine. Ray’s father died when he was 2 years old and his grandparents raised him on the family farm.
He married Jane A. Eschenbrenner in St. Joseph Catholic Church on February 6, 1951.
Survivors include his daughters, Darlene (John) Lockard of Pemberville and Tammy (Michael) Bauman of Scottsdale, AZ; daughter-in-law, Jean Valentine of Tiffin; sister, Betty Heil of Tiffin; four grandchildren, Jill (Steve) Fox of East Greenville, PA, Meghan (Jason) Seem of Findlay, Chad Lockard of Cincinnati and Allison (Joe) Valente of State College, PA; and seven great grandchildren, Abby, Ava and Noah Fox, Kyle and Kate Seem, and Lucia and Lucca Valente.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; son, Herman Jay Valentine; and sisters, Catherine Maxwell, Anna Marie Kirschner and Carolyn Sharpe.
Ray graduated from Hopewell-Loudon High School in 1948. While at Hopewell-Loudon, he was active in class plays, chorus and FFA and was a State Farmer and class officer. After graduation, Ray was a proud farmer all his life. He drove school bus for Hopewell-Loudon Schools for 43 years and worked part-time at Tiffin Enterprises before starting to work at Hopewell-Loudon in 1956. He was a bus supervisor, bus driver and maintenance engineer.
Ray was active in other area organizations over the years. He was a member of Bascom Lions, Bascom Fire Department, Toastmasters, Farm Bureau, fair board and the V.F.W. Ray led the Bascom Lions Memorial parade for many years. He was always ready to help at anytime. Ray dedicated more than 30 years assisting the athletic department in many ways. As a member of his family once said, “Ray is a very special father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.”
His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at SS Patrick & Andrew Catholic Church, Bascom with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, 419-447-2424.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to F.A.C.T. (Financial Assistance for Cancer Treatment), Good Shepherd Home Activities Department, Bridge Hospice of Findlay or to SS Patrick & Andrew Catholic Church.
Ray would like to thank two very special friends, Rita Boullion and Larry Elchert for their kindness and many visits. He would always say, “Take a friend to lunch and tell and share the things we often think of only after someone is gone.”
