Trudy graduated from Bridgewater College and worked for First Virginia National Bank, Bank of America and Sovran Bank, for over 42 years before retiring as Branch Manager, and at the Shenandoah Valley Livestock Sales for over 30 years. After retirement she worked at the Keezletown Community Cannery with her husband for a number of years. . She enjoyed gardening, flowers, canning and knitting, camping, and Fourth of July cookouts with family and friends. She was an active member of the McGaheysville United Methodist Church, and was involved in lots of church projects.
On June 11, 1952 she married, Royce Thomas Hammer who preceded her in death on October 18, 2010. In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by a sister, Jean Dickson, brothers, K. Philip Koontz and Noah Koontz.
She is survived by, sons, Kenny Hammer and wife, Sandra of McGaheysville, Perry Hammer of Hong Kong; daughter, Katanya Howe and husband, Wayne of Elkton; grandchildren, Ken Hammer and wife, Cathy, Kymberly Coffman and husband, Matthew, Lashawntja Hammer, Shirod Hammer and Ross Hammer; brother, David Koontz of Elkton; sisters, Charlotte Blanchard of Fredricksburg and Joan Shifflett of Elkton.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with Rev. Jim Wingert officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct. Glenn Allen Va. 23060.
