Hal D. Beman, Jr.

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Saturday, October 1, 2016, Mr. "Hal" D. Beman, Jr., 95, loving husband to the late Betty E. Beman.

Mr. Beman was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. He graduated from Academy of Richmond County and attended Bob Jones University when he was called into service for WWII, in the Coast Guard. He first served in Washington D.C. on the Potomac where he met his wife of 63 years, Betty. Mr. Beman was a 3rd Class Petty Officer and served aboard the LST-795 in the South Pacific. He moved back to Augusta where he began his career with Dupont, retiring after 28 years.

He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Augusta and a member of the Trinity Sunday School Class. Also, he was a member of the National Railway Historical Society. Mr. Beman was very devoted to the Lord and to his family, and was the perfect example of a true southern gentleman.

Family members include his son: Hal D. Beman, III (Mary Donna); daughters: Peggy B. Pruitt (Jerry) and Alice B. Cawley (Chris); grandchildren: Hal D. Beman, IV (Suzie), Davis H. Beman (Elizabeth), Jeremy K. Cawthon (Kiki), Winter C. Cawley (Jonathan), and Christopher C. Cawley, Jr.; and great grandchildren: Laura Beth Cawthon, Aislin E. Cawthon, Jack B. Cawthon, Howell Beman, Jr., McKnight Beman, Hal Beman, V, Bray Beman, Hannah Davis, Knox Beman, Tyler Cawthon, Joshua Davis, and Colton Cawthon. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Doug Cawthon, and great granddaughter, Caitlyn Cawthon.

A graveside service was held Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in Summerville Cemetery with Dr. George Robertson officiating.
