Charles Keyser Jr. was the eldest of ten children born to Carl/Charles Sebastian Keyser (1726/27-1778) and his wife, whose identity is disputed but may have been Mary Shelly. (His father was a native of Möckmühl, Württemberg, Germany and arrived in Philadelphia in 1749.) Charles married Elizabeth Baker and the couple had seven children: David, Joseph, Margaret (Peggy), Mary, Charles, Catharine, and Elizabeth. He died in 1796, sometime before June 14, the date of the appointment of Samuel Stover as administrator of the estate of "Charles Kizer."
