Dorothy Jean Goates Hatch, age 82, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2003 in American Fork, Utah. She was born September 17, 1920 in Lehi, Utah to John Elijah Goates and Reva Rosena Grant. She was the first of four children. She was married to Quinn A. Hatch on July 2 ,1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death by 5 days. They were blessed with 1 daughter and 2 sons.

In her early years she lived in Logan where her father obtained his degree from Utah State University. They moved to Provo where she attended Provo schools. After she graduated from Provo High School she attended Brigham Young University. She graduated from Brigham Young University in June 1945, with a degree in English.

Dorothy served as a missionary in the California Mission from 1941-1943, and served with her husband, Quinn in the Montreal Canadian Mission from 1986-1987. She served as a Relief Society president, ward organist, chorister and in many other callings. She was an avid genealogist having prepared thousands of group sheets. She was a volunteer at the Church Office building in the Royal Ancestors Department.

Dorothy was very musically talented. She taught piano lessons for 40 years in her home. Her hobbies were sewing, oil painting, travel, and growing flowers and tropical plants.

She was involved in the community. She was active in YESHARAH. During World War II she worked for the Red Cross. She enjoyed being a member of the Friendship Club in her ward.

Dorothy loved her family. She is survived by 1 daughter Rozanne H. Nicholes and husband Walter of Orem; 2 sons, Q. Bryant Hatch and wife Kathie of Provo; Gregg L. Hatch and wife Ann of Orem; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; 1 brother Grant Alton Goates, of Orem and 1 sister Mary Jewell Goates Dunn of American Fork. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 1 sister. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Orem Sunset Heights Stake Center, 1260 S. 400 W., Orem. Friends may call at Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 E. Center, Provo, Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Orem City Cemetery.
