"Henry Clay McCord, for many years a resident of Altoona and an expert accountant died at his home 2427 Maple avenue, of pneumonia after a short illness at 9:53 o'clock last night. Few of his friends knew of his sickness, and the news of his death came as a distinct shock to them. On Saturday last he was seen on the street and was in comparatively good health. Deceased was born December 29, 1845 at Hollidaysburg. He was educated in native town but the greater part of his life was passed in Altoona. He was for many years connected in a clerical capacity with the First National bank and was one of the most proficient and most expert accountants in the city. He was for many years personally connected with Mr. John Lloyd as paymaster for the Pennsylvania railroad company. Several years ago Mr. McCord left the city and resided in Baltimore, and later was connected with Lloyd in the mining business in Westmoreland county. He returned to the city last May, since which time he has been in the employ of the Edison Electric Light company. He was a veteran of the civil war, having served nine months in the 125th regiment Pennsylvania volunteers. He was twice married and to the first union one son, Howard M. McCord, of this city, survives. He was married a second time on July 4, 1873 to Miss Helen Goldman of Baltimore, who survives with these children: H.C. McCord, of Pittsburg, Mrs. Mary Edna Minsin, of Baltimore, and Miss Elizabeth H., at home. He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. John Lloyd, of near Hollidaysburg, Mrs. John Stewart of Philadelphia, Mrs. Mary Whitington, of Swathmore and Mrs. McNutt of Connecticut. Mr. McCord was a member of the First Baptist church."
