Bill Hake, 67, of Edmond, OK passed away on September 28, 2016 after living a life of dignity with ALS for 6 years. He was born to Dale "CowBoy" and Marge Hake in Madison, WI on June 1, 1949. "All Bills come on the first of the month", he'd tell his friends. He spent his childhood growing up in Platteville, WI as the middle son who loved to compete with his older brother, Jim and protect his younger brother, Tom. For his schooling he attended the Doudna Lab School on the university campus, was a proud 1967 graduate of Platteville High school, and earned a degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1971. Bill married his high school sweetheart, Mary (Kinney) Hake in June of 1971. They began his 27-year career in the coal mining industry, working for Old Ben Coal Co in Benton, IL and spent time in Evansville, IN, Lexington, KY and Mt. Vernon, IL. He served his company in several different positions and completed his career with Old Ben as Vice President of the Illinois Division. In 1991, Bill joined the Kerr-McGee Coal Corporation as a manager of engineering at the Galatia Mine in southern Illinois which eventually brought him to Oklahoma as Vice President of Operations and then Senior Vice President of Coal for Kerr-McGee Corporation. In 1998 with the sale of the company, Bill decided it was time to begin spending more time with his family as the addition of grandchildren came on the scene. He now had the time to become a ferocious reader, travel with Mary, take golf a little more seriously, care for the grandchildren, serve as chairman of the Kickingbird Senior Golf League and Fox Lake Homeowners Association, play bridge with the "Bad Boys" and neighborhood friends, and finally get his home life organized as only an engineer could. He was a fan of the Green Bay Packers, St. Louis Cardinals, and anything associated with Oklahoma State University. Even though Bill's ability to reach out and hug his family and friends was taken away by ALS, he still expressed his love with his smiling eyes and a grateful heart. When Bill's children were young and again with his grandchildren, he often sang "You Are My Sunshine" to comfort them and we will all miss hearing his voice, but promise to carry on that tradition. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary; daughter Christa and husband Clint Cowan of Edmond, their 4 children: Alexis, Olivia, Carter, and Eli; son Brian and wife Jana Hake, their sons Tanner and Hudson of Royse City, TX; brother Jim and wife Barb Hake of Parker, CO; brother Tom and wife Terry Hake of Rewey, WI. The funeral Mass will celebrate Bill's life at 11:00 Thursday morning, October 6, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ninth & Boulevard in Edmond. The care given to Bill by Dr. Craig Evans his personal physician, Dr. Brent Beson, his staff and all associated with the MDA Clinic, Pam Forducey facilitator of the ALS support group, and caregiver Ursala Shelly was a blessing for all the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Bill by making a donation to the Neuro Muscular Center 4221 South Western Suite 5010, Oklahoma City, OK 73109.
