Hugh D Adams, age 84 of Holt passed away at his home September 27, 2016. He was born January 8, 1932 in Holt, FL.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathy Hardin Adams and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; Carrie and Hardy Adams, brothers; Dan, Bob, Roy, and Billy. Hugh was a pillar of his community, he attended First Baptist Church in Holt, FL., and he was a warm, caring person who never met a stranger.
Some of his accomplishments include; elementary school in Holt, FL., graduating from Baker High School in 1950, where he played varsity football on Baker's first football team, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1950 and served until he was honorably discharged in 1954. While in the Navy, he attended Class A communication Technician School (Apr 1951- Dec 1951), he spent two years in Japan with the Naval Security group (Feb 1952 - Feb 1954), he was also assigned to Cheltenham, MD. Security Guard (Apr 1954 - Oct 1954), returned to Holt, FL after being discharged.
After retiring from Civil Service, he served as elected County Commissioner from 1980 - 1984, he was co-owner of BCH Building Supply and Hardware from 1984 -1986, and from 1986 to 1995 he was active with Hadji Temple, Crippled Children's program, and was Crippled Children chairman for Old Spanish Trail Club in Crestview. He was a Mason and a Shiner for over 50 years.
From 1995 to his time of passing he remained active doing some of the things a retired person does; hunt, fish, loaf, honeydew jobs and look out for the widows and orphans.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 30, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Holt, FL. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., service will begin at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at New Holt Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions to First Baptist Church of Holt building fund or food pantry would be appreciated.
