IN MEMORIAM
With the close of Monday Febuary 7, 1898, there ascended to heaven the soul of Mrs. MARY L. BLACKMORE
Her life had been an unusually active one and her efforts had always been for the pleasure and comfort of others. She found her greatest happiness in doing for her children from whom she received the deepest of love and honer. Of nature earnest but gentle, self reliant yet unassuming, prayerfully, religious, though charitable inclined towards the faults of others. She occupied a place in her home and in the community not to be filled now, that she entered in to her reward.
Mrs. Blackmore was a native of Alabama where she was born fifty-eight years ago. While yet a young lady, she came with her father and mother to Texas. In 1865 she was married to JOSEPH A BLACKMORE, to whom she was indeed a help-meet till his death May 14th, 1890. Since then she has been both a mother and father to her children, the youngest of which is now nearly grown.
She was taken suddenly sick, Friday, January 28th with stroke of apoplexy and lingered till Monday February 7th. She was surrounded by her children and friends during her last illness. Everything was done that filial devotion and medical science could suggest to alleviate her sufferings and if possible to bring back the dear one from the brink of the grave, but all was in vain. Her maker had called her, and with Christion preparation she answered the sommons.
The Funeral services were conducted by Rev: O. W. Dean, owing to the absence of her pastor, Rev. G. H. Hodge, of the Methodist church, of which she was a consistent member.
Nine children mourn a mother's loss to wit: Mrs, Jno Harris[Havis], Dublin: Mrs. J. M. Wilson, Milford; Mrs. J. M. Hall, Meridian; Mrs. R. H. Buck, Fort Worth; MISS JULIA BLACKMORE, Kopperl; T. E. Blackmore, Wharton; J. T., E. S. and Robert Blackmore, Kopperl.
A home is hallowed by a mothers presence, a life is sweetened by a mother's memory.

Mary & Joseph's children:
Eula Elliott BLACKMORE (1867-1959)
Thomas Elmore Blackmore Sr. (1869-1905)
Joseph Franklin BLACKMORE (1872-1924)
