Charles returned to his Father in Heaven while at home, surrounded by his children. He was greeted by his wife Gloria, whom he has missed terribly for the last seven months. He was born in Ogden to Luella Nicholas and George Carroll Crittenden. He graduated from Ogden High in 1953, and received his BS in 1961, MS in 1968, and doctorate in 1980, all from Utah State. He taught for many years and retired from Weber State as a professor of computer science. He married his eternal companion, Gloria Nadine Dalton, in the Salt Lake Temple in 1959. Charles imparted to his six children the value of hard work and education, saying, “Anyone can do the easy things, but it takes someone with determination to accomplish and overcome the more difficult.” He enjoyed hunting, gardening, antique furniture restoration, gunsmithing, collecting antique glass, and playing vinyl records. However, his greatest joy was his family and lifelong friendships. He often said, “Family is everything.” He was a faithful and active member of his church, serving a three-year mission in the Cook Islands and fulfilling many callings in the bishopric, young men’s, and high priest organizations. He was a gifted Sunday school and priesthood teacher.

He is survived by his sons, Herbert Crittenden and Cole (David Adler) Crittenden; his daughters, Charlene (Brett) Rose, LillieAnn (Darin) Flinn, Kristanne (Shawn) Willden, and Alicyn Hall (Chad); and 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one on the way. He is also survived by his brothers, Don Crittenden and Carroll Crittenden; and sister, MarthaAnn Donaldson. He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria, his parents, and two brothers, Herb and Paul.

Funeral services will be held September 30th at the Milton Stoddard LDS chapel, at 1255 N Morgan Valley Drive in Milton, Utah at 11 a.m. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the same location September 29th from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services on Friday.

Interment in the Milton Pioneer Cemetery.
