Funeral services for Bernard Aeilts, 90, were Monday, June 28, at St. Andrew s Church, SIbley, with Monsignor Nicholas Ruba officiating
Burial was In St. Andrew's Cemetery, Sibley, with Walton Roste Funeral Home, Sibley, incharge of arrangements.
Bernard Jan Louis Aeilts was born January 2, 1903 In Berlin,
Germany the son of Jan and Pauline (Eckert) Aerlts He grew up In Berlin, graduating from high school and went on to study painting, design. decorating and mixing colors and paints 10 the art school 10 Berlin
In December of 1924 the family emigrated to the United States Bernard accompanied his parents and two sisters, Helen and Johanna In the Journey They arrived in Little Rock on Christmas Day 1924 and were met by a relative and sponsor, Rev. E Aeilts.
In 1925 they moved to Sibley where they made their home Bernard started a painting and decorating service in Sibley with his father who was also a painter and decorator During World War II Bernard was a member of the United States Army and served in
the Combat Engineers Corps where he drew maps
After receiving his honorable discharge Bernard worked at the bomber plant 10 Ypsilanti, Mich., drawing the U S. insignias on B24 planes This work was done free hand by Bernard.
On July 20, 1943 he was married to Teresa Ulrich at Ypsilanti. In 1945 they returned to Sibley where Bernard continued his profession as a painter and decorator until he retired in 1975.
During his life in Sibley he was an active member of the Sibley Rotary Club and was a past-president. He was a member of the American Legion and was a past commander, and a member of St. Andrew's Catholics Church.
On July 3,1991 Bernard became a resident of Country View Manor In Sibley and last Friday, June 25, 1993, he died there.
Survivors are his wife, Teresa of Sibley; one son, John Aeilts and his wife, Vickie of Kaufman, Texas and four grandchildren. Bill, Ken, Shawn and Jody. Also surviving
is a Sister, Helen Smith of Stillwater, Minn.
Preceding him 10 death were his parents, and a sister, Johanna
