Obituary:
Mary Frances Babcock, 91, of Hiawatha died Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha where she had been a resident since December of 2004. Mary was born August 31, 1915 at the home in Robinson, KS to Otis Amos and Lida Mabel Roudebush Mellott. She attended grade school at Bellvue District #6 and graduated from Robinson High School. She married Nathan K. Babcock in January of 1936. They farmed in the Robinson community all of their married life. They were married for 55 years before his death in 1991. Mary worked for the Brown County Infirmary before working at the Hiawatha Community Hospital for over 35 years. She then volunteered at the hospital for at least 10 years. She was a member of the Bethany United Church of Christ in Hiawatha. Mary enjoyed embroidery, quilting, and gardening. She is survived by a daughter Marian Armstrong of Hiawatha, KS, two sons; Ken Babcock and wife Nancy of Hiawatha, KS, Jim Babcock and wife Marjean of South Fork, CO, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by two brothers; Van Galen and Nolan Dwight Mellott, two sisters; Millie Elizabeth Irwin and Gladys Ione Fahrmeyer, an infant sister; Anna Marie Mellott, a son-in-law; James Armstrong, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services are planned for 2 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2006 at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Pastor Charlie Robinson will officiate. Private family inurnment will be held at the Hiawatha Cemetery at a later date.
