Sturgis; Robert L. "Bob" AFFHALTER, age 83, of Sturgis, Mich., died Friday, July 25, 2003, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.

He was born March 25, 1920, in Portland, Ind., a son of George and Edith M. (BROCK) AFFHALTER. He lived most of his life in Three Rivers, Colon and then moved to Sturgis in the 1950s.

On Aug. 20, 1960, he married June R. KIME in Vicksburg.

Bob worked at the former Kirsch Company of Sturgis for well over 30 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in North Africa and France, where he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. He earned the European, African, Middle Eastern Ribbon with a Silver Battle Star.

Bob was a life member of the Knights of Pythias in Sturgis; a member of the LaGrange, Ind. Area Coin Club and the International Brotherhood of Magicians; and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He attended the Sturgis Missionary Church.

Bob enjoyed attending Sturgis school sporting events and parades and recording them in photographs. He also performed magic shows for children.

Surviving are; his wife, June; daughters, Karen AFFHALTER f Sturgis and Linda AFFHALTER of Orlando, Fla.; a son, Brian AFFHALTER of Sturgis; two brothers, William of Constantine and James of Gaylord; a sister, Betty AFFHALTER of Kalamazoo and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Max, Russell and Roger AFFHALTER.

Friends and relatives may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hackman-Foglesong Funeral Home of Sturgis, where services celebrating the life of Robert L. AFFHALTER will be held at 2 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Dale E. Gerig will officiate. A graveside committal service will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Affhalter's memory consider the Sturgis High School Athletic Boosters or Junior Achievement of Sturgis.
