Mrs. Mildred Laurie Altman Griffin, 87, passed away early Sunday morning, December 17, 2006, at the University Hospital in Augusta, GA.

A native of Pierce County, she had lived in Augusta for the past year. She was a 1936 graduate of Blackshear High School and along with her late husband, James Knight Griffin, Jr., ran the Griffin's Service Station in Patterson for several decades. A member of the Patterson Baptist Church and the Faith Sunday School Class, Mrs. Griffin would often sing lovely solos. She had also taught kindergarten for two years at the Patterson Methodist Church and was a member and past president of the Patterson Garden Club. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Griffin was also preceded in death by her parents, James Walter & Susie Rice Altman; a grandson, Jerry Edward "Chipper" Griffin, Jr.; a brother, Edgar Altman, and three sisters, Lucille Colvin, Elberta Handley and Ethyl Goodowns.

Funeral services for Mrs. Griffin will be held Tuesday afternoon, December 19, 2006, at 3:00 o'clock from the Patterson Baptist Church.

Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service and also at the graveside.

Mrs. Griffin will lay in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Members of the Faith Sunday School Class are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church by 2:30 Tuesday afternoon.
