Lydia was born February 3, 1797 to Simon and Eleanor (Routh) Adamson in Tennessee, likely Jefferson County. She was the third of ten children. Her older siblings are Jessee and Jacob. Her younger siblings are Esther, Thomas, Susannah, Larkin, Mary, Levi, and Eleanor.

On June 1, 1815, Lydia married Joshua David Covey in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Together, they had 13 children: Elizabeth, Martha, Enoch, Hester, Samuel Edward, Priscilla, Nancy, Susannah, William B., Jacob, Levi, Lucian, and John Isaac.

Lydia died on April 30, 1855, likely in either Pettis County, Missouri (her residence in the 1850 census) or Henry County, Missouri (the residence of her husband Joshua in the 1860 census). Her husband lived another 18 years, passing away in 1873.
