Gene Jacobs passed away on Sunday, September 18, in Fort Collins.

He was born on August 16, 1924, in Greeley, to Gertrude & Thomas Jacobs. He was the 3rd of 6 children. In his early years, the family lived in several places in Colorado, and finally settled in South Park, where they lived at various times in Fairplay, Como and on a homestead near the Hartsell Ranch. One week after graduating from high school in 1943, he was called up to join the Army Air Corps to fight in World War II. He served with the 425th Night Fighter Squadron, as an armament technician, and was posted in England, France & Germany during the war. He later served in the Colorado National Guard and spent 9 months building roads in Korea during the Korean conflict.

He married Marge Selby on October 3, 1948, and they would have celebrated 68 years together next month. They had 2 daughters and spent most of their married life in Loveland and Fort Collins.

He worked for the Colorado Highway Department for 35 years, primarily responsible for road maintenance & plowing Hwy 287 north of Fort Collins and into Poudre Canyon. He then spent another 10 years during retirement, working for the Loveland Parks & Golf courses.

He loved to work outside creating beautiful landscapes, painting & woodworking. He was a master woodworker and has left his family with many mementos of his handiwork, including cedar chests, wishing wells, toy boxes & children's tables, chairs & swings, as well as many beautiful paintings.

He is survived by his wife Marge, daughters Kathy Jacobs of Fort Collins, and Susan (Rod) Schwasinger of Bozeman, MT, in addition to his granddaughter Regina Jacobs and grandson Matt Schwasinger. He is also survived by sister Mary Jacobs of Kanab, UT, and brother Victor Jacobs of San Diego, CA, in addition to many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters.

Gene's family would like to thank the staff at Columbine West Health Care and the private caregivers from Just As Family for the wonderful, compassionate & devoted care given to him & his family during very difficult times.

A memorial service will be held at Resthaven Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 23 @ 10AM, followed by military honors at the gravesite and a luncheon. Memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choosing.
