Funeral services for Helen R Paxton, 91, of SC and formerly of Lisbon, NY at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Michael O'Donnell officiating. Burial at Flackville Cemetery. Mrs. Paxton died on Sep. 21, 2016 at the Lexington Medical Center. Surviving are three children; John Andrea Paxton of FL, Christopher Jo Ann Paxton of Lexington, SC and Michele James Skidds of Ogdensburg; a sister Arlene James Hogan of Hudson; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. Her husband John and brother James Akins and Lee Akins predeceased her.
Helen was born on Jan. 12, 1925 in Lisbon, daughter of John L and Evelyn Lau rie Akins. She graduated from Lisbon High School; continued at Potsdam State, Plattsburgh, Courtland and University of Pennsylvania obtaining a Registered Nursing degree. She married John Paxton on Sep. 2, 1950 at St. John's Episcopal Church.
She was a certified Public Health Nurse in Philadelphia, PA and St. Lawrence County; a school nurse at Lisbon Central 1967-1976 and at St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg until 1983 then cared for emotionally disturbed children.
