She was born on October 5th, 1931 in Keokuk, Iowa to William and Rose [nee Whalen] Shepherd.
Joann was known for her strength and independence. She will be remembered for her sharp, funny and determined demeanor, providing our families with many stories to share for generations. She worked until she was 71 years young. She enjoyed reading mystery suspense novels and gardening. Her passion for animals was relentless. Joann was a fabulous cook, no measurements ever needed. We ask you to take a moment to hug the ones close to you in her memory, time waits for no one.
Surviving are four children: Carla Ketts, William Bird [Luicene Harris], Maxine Jackson [Norman], and Gary Bird; granddaughter, Christine Abbott [Daniel];
son-in-law, Ellis Halbert; eight other grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Carl Bird; her second husband, Floyd O'Shea; two daughters: Rosemary Gray and Sherry Halbert; one brother and one sister.
Visitation will be held at Bellerive Mausoleum Chapel on Saturday Oct 8 from noon until 1 pm with Memorial Service to follow at 1.
Interment is private at Bellerive Gardens Cemetery.
