Richard Mathias “Dick” Fruchtl, 85 of Effingham, passed away at 6:33 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at H.S.H.S. St. Anthony Memorial Hospital, with his wife of 62 years, Sandra J. Fruchtl by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2016 at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Marine Corps League, St. Anthony’s schools or the donor’s choice.

Dick was born on June 11, 1931 in Effingham, the son of Louis and Gertrude Fruchtl.

He was a 1949 graduate of St. Anthony High School. He attended Quincy College in Quincy, IL for one year before joining the U.S Marines in 1950. Dick served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1950 to 1952 all of which was active duty in the Korean War.

Upon returning from service, he graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, MO. and then worked as a Doctor of Chiropractic in Louisville, KY.

He married Sandra J. Feuerborn on April 24, 1954 and raised four sons. Dick retired after 22 years as the Personnel Manager at Crossroads Press/World Color Press.

He was an avid golfer and member of the Effingham Country Club for over 40 years. He was instrumental in establishing the local chapter of the Marine Corps League in Effingham and served as its first Commandant. He was a fan of U of I football and basketball, the Green Bay Packers and the St. Louis Cardinals.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; sons, Eric of Burnsville, MN, Jeff of Effingham, and Ted (wife, Jenny) of Effingham; grandchildren, William Fruchtl of Ventura, CA, Michael Fruchtl of Phoenix, AZ, Daniel Fruchtl of Merced, CA; and Jennifer Toste of Arroyo Grande, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Gertrude Fruchtl; brother, Robert Fruchtl; sister, Jane Raney; son, Steven Fruchtl and grandson, Joseph Fruchtl.

A memorial funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2016 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery.
