Terry A. Smith, a resident of Klamath Falls, Ore., died at home on Sept. 5, 2016, at the age of 81. A visitation will be held at O'Hair-Wards Funeral Chapel on Sunday Sept. 11, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m., and a funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 12. Terry was born in Topeka, Kan., on Nov. 11, 1934, to Charles and Karmyl Smith. At age 4, his life was almost cut short after being hit by a car and receiving serious head injuries. His family later moved to Klamath Falls, where he graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1953, and then graduated with an AA degree from Oregon Technical Institute. In 1955, Terry joined the USAF, serving for eight years as a jet engine engineer, in Okinawa and the Philippines. During his enlistment he was fortunate to meet Harry S. Truman. After his time in the military, he married Geraldine Munjar in 1963. Terry then spent the next 30 years of his working life as an employee with the fire department, retiring as a captain. Terry was an avid ham radio operator, and enjoyed talking and coding with people all over the world. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, bow hunting and spending time with his family. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Lee Farrell, and Amy and Andrew Cummings; brothers, Lee Smith and Jim Smith; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
