Elmer H. Clayton, 85, formerly of Linton, died at his residence in Carrabelle, Florida, at 2 p.m. Friday. He had lived in Carrabelle for the past three years. He was a retired postal employee and formerly owned and operated Elmer Antiques in Linton.

Born April 16, 1897 in Greene County, he was the son of George D. and Julia Stahl Clayton. He was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Harry of Paris, Illinois, Calvin of Carrabelle, Florida, and Tracy of Indianapolis; one daughter, Julia Wright of Linton; two sisters, Alma Pope of Linton and Rose Hardy of Jasonville; two brothers, Roy of Linton and Francis of Bloomington; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable Ruth Hunt Clayton in 1979, one son, one daughter, four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel with Rev. Robert J. Hamblen officiating. Burial will be in Clayton Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in Linton until 9 p.m. today.
