Alice R. English, 90, of the Berwick Retirement Village, where she was a guest for five (crossed out and 7 handwritten in) years, died at 9 a.m. Monday at the Berwick Hospital, where she was admitted early in the day. She was previously a guest at the United Methodist Home in Lewisburg.
Born in Nescopeck, Nov. 14, 1894, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Adda Sponenburg Hetler. She had lived in the Berwick and Nescopeck area most of her life. She graduated from the Nescopeck High School in 1912. Mrs. English was a retired employee of the former AC&F Industries in Berwick. She was the oldest member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Nescopeck. She had served as a Sunday school teacher, pianist, and with the Ladies Aid Society of the church.
She was preceded in death by husband, George B. English, on July 18, 1964. She was the last member of her immediate family. Several cousins survive. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Heller Funeral Home, Nescopeck, with the Rev. Edward Prowant, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Market Street, Berwick.
