Margaret “Joan” Yancey, 80, of Amelia Island, FL, and formerly of Harrisonburg, VA, passed away September 17, 2016 at Osprey Village on Amelia Island.
She was born June 20, 1936 in Mathias, WV and was the daughter of the late Mary Lena Snider Caldwell Tewalt and Guyser E. Caldwell.
On June 25, 1961, she married Edward C. Yancey, who preceded her in death, September 5, 1975.
Joan was a 1954 graduate of Mathias High School, and a 1956 graduate of Maryland Medical Secretarial School and over the course of her long career in medical offices, worked for numerous Harrisonburg physicians. She was a lifelong member of the Mathias Brethren Church.
She is survived by one daughter Linda Y. Raker (John) of Fernandina Beach, FL; one granddaughter, Sarah Grace McCormick of Jacksonville, FL; three sisters, Mary Martha Good of Harrisonburg, VA, Jane Robinson of Mathias, WV, and Nancy Zirk (Jim) of Harrisonburg, VA; one brother, William Caldwell (Pat); one brother-in-law, Joe C. Yancey of Harrisonburg, VA; 8 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mathias Brethren Church, in care of Jane Robinson, Treasurer, 17610 State Road 259, Mathias, WV 26812-8451
A private burial will be held at the Fellowship Community cemetery. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, September 29th, 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the gardens of the Bridgewater Inn, 104 West College Street, Bridgewater, VA.
