Carmel resident.

Son of Frank and Edna Stenger.
Married Dorothy Hambright in 1947. She preceded him in death in 1972.
Married Pam in 1975.
Survivors include children Deb Okotie, David Stenger and Dan Stenger; step-daughters Tammy Reedy and Donna Ingalsbe; sister Betty Armstrong; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by sister Margaret Armstrong and brothers Joseph and Robert Stenger.

1942 graduate of Tuscola (IL) High School.

Joined the U.S. Navy and became a gunner’s mate on the heavy cruiser USS Salt Lake City during World War
II, serving from 1943 to 1946. Service in the Pacific theatre saw him in action on Tarawa, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, the Philippines and the Aleutian Islands.

Received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois (class of 1952).

In 1955 Don joined R.R. Donnelley & Sons in Crawfordsville, where he became Supervisor of Equipment Engineering and rose to management positions throughout a career of over 30 years.
After retiring he worked in retail at Target and Macy stores in Indianapolis.

Active member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

He enjoyed flower gardening, spectator sports, television and golf, was an avid runner, completing marathons well into his 50s, published poetry, enjoyed crossword puzzles, music, cabaret theater, and spending time with friends.

Prayer services 11am Saturday, September 24 at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel.
Visitation 1 hour prior to service.
A reception will follow the service.
