At the ripe age of 7 he had to take a year off from schooling to tend to his mother who was burned in a fire and his baby brother Teddy Jack to take care of. When he returned to school he and his brother Willis were in the same grade.
When WWII came about he entered the Army and because of his capability of speaking German was sent to training for the OSS in England and Scotland. Since he was only 17 when he entered, he was a fully trained and equipped spy behind the lines in Germany at the age of 19. For the remainder of his days he relived those times in his sleep. If anything helped him to have peace in his heart, it was his grandchildren.
