Sam was born on Vancouver Island in the town of Sidney.
He was the first of 5 children born to Samuel Ormond Blackwell and Violet May Burman. He worked as a "finish carpenter" but his true passion was fishing. His favorite place was fishing for salmon at "The Narrows". He died at home in Campbell River on Vancouver Island and is buried in a cemetery near that city.

Photo: My brother Sam is in the back of the boat fishing for salmon at "The Narrows" between Vancouver Island and the mainland just a short distance from Campbell River. His buddy Charlie is in the front and that is bait on his line, just so you don't confuse it with "the big ones" they caught.
