A.D. Wasdin died September 13, 2016 at the age of 93.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Mark Sertich and a son and daughter-in-law, Zane and Linda Wasdin, all of Jesup; a sister, Lawanda Evors from Screven and seven grandchildren, Shellie and Scott Brown of Alma, Leslie and Neil Dubberly of Jesup, Lauren and Justin Orvin of Baxley, Kristin and Jordan Byce of Watkinsville, Byron Cowart and fiancé Kayla Lightsey of Jesup, Jake and Christi Sertich of Screven, and Travis and Brenda Sertich of Athens. He also has 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A.D. and Mary, along with the entire family were very blessed to have such amazing caregivers like Shellie Williams and her husband Joey Williams.

Armister Driskell, known to most as A.D., was born November 11, 1922 in Jacksonville, FL to John Loy and Fannie Harvey Wasdin. In 1943, he was inducted into the Navy. A veteran of World War II, A.D. served on the aircraft carrier, USS Ranger, as an aviation electrician mate first class. Upon an honorable discharge in 1946, he went to work as a telegraph operator for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad. He married Mary Lena Wingate of Ludowici on January 16, 1948 and settle in Jesup. He began employment as an electrician at Rayonier in 1956 until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement from Rayonier, he enjoyed traveling the United States, fishing, hunting, watching the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs along with visiting with friends and family.

A.D. was a member of First Baptist Church and attended The Golden Rulers Sunday School class. He had also been a member of the Rayonier Employee’s Credit Union since 1957, currently known as Altamaha Federal Credit Union, and served many years on the Credit Committee. He was also a member of the IBEW, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, local 1545.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Jesup with Dr. Michael VonMoss and Rev. Stanley Todd officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.

Private interment services with military honors will be held at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers are her grandsons Byron Cowart, Jordan Byce, Scott Brown, Justin Orvin, Neil Dubberly, Travis Sertich and Jake Sertich.

Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Golden Rulers Sunday School Class and caretakers Shelli and Joey Williams.
