When our nation went to World War I, Hooker filled out a draft registration card. He signed his name as Hughland Silas Hooker and wrote Carbon, Texas as his birthplace. He had blue eyes, light colored hair and was of medium build. Hooker started out working as a pumper on the railroad. Later Hooker was drayman and had a transfer business. Prior to the depression he had several trucks but lost everything during the depression. Most of you remember Hooker working for about 15 years with a wagon and Pat and Mike, his team of horses. When times got better in 1948 he purchased a new dodge truck to service the booming oil well drilling sector where he hauled cement and drilling fluid.. His office was in the MK&T depot for aver 30 years. His favorite pastimes were overnight trotline fishing on the Matthews Ranch and playing Moon at Jiggs Pool hall.
