She spent her early years in Hemingford, Nebraska, until the 5th grade. She moved to Idaho Falls, where she attended Emerson Grade School and Idaho Falls High School, and then moved to Sumner, Washington her senior year.
She married Steven James Barney on Jan. 28, 1946, in Dillon, Montana. They made their home in Osborn and Wallace, Idaho. To this union 3 children were born - a premature baby boy, Raymond Steve Barney and Linda Lee Barney. Her husband, Steve, passed away on Aug. 31, 1956, from injuries received in a mining accident.
She married Donald George Woodruff on April 4, 1959, in Idaho Falls. To this union, 2 children were born - Ruby Marie Woodruff and Richard Torrey Woodruff. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where she was a wonderful homemaker, gardener and mother.
She worked for various potato warehouses in the area. She became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the age of 71 years, where she remained faithful for the remainder of her life. She loved being a Visiting Teacher and served as a Visiting Teaching supervisor.
Mavis was an excellent cook and had her family for dinner often. Everyone loved her fried chicken. She loved holidays with family and feeding her squirrels and birds. She spent lots of time in her beautiful yard and enjoyed being outdoors. Mavis was strong, a hard worker, and had wit. She was the best mother and grandmother anyone could wish for.
Mavis, 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was under the care of Hands of Hope Home Health Care and Hospice and her family.
She is survived by her children: Linda (Klint) Larsen, Ruby (Brad) Snarr, and Richard (Kellee) Woodruff. Step-children, Ronna Woodruff-Watts and Bruce (Cheryl) Woodruff-Biggs, 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both spouses, 2 children, a step-daughter, and all of her siblings.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at Wood Funeral Home. Interment at the Lewisville Cemetery.
