George Sluga died suddenly on October 9, 2000 in West Jordan, Utah.

George was born in Spring Glen, Utah on May 23, 1915 to Matilda Trisk and George Sluga.

As a young man, he settled in Bingham Canyon, Utah where he met and married Jennie Churchich on September 16, 1940. George was a great athlete and enjoyed playing for the Help-er and Bingham Baseball Industrial League Teams during the 1940's and 50's. As a superior bowler, he was inducted into the Salt Lake City Association Bowling Hall of Fame in 1986. Other hobbies included tinkering with his 1940 Chevy and making artistic welding gifts for family and friends. As a long-time employee of Kennecott Copper Corporation, George retired in 1979.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Jennie; sons, Max (Fay); George (Martie), both Salt Lake; grandchildren, Paul Sluga, Shelly (Cameron) Nerdin, Darrin (Rose-Marie) Sluga, Brandon (Natalie) Sluga, Lauri (Lowell) Smith and Danny (Andrea) Sluga; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Costello, Price, Utah; Pauline (Martin) Ahlin, Salt Lake; brothers, Tony (Edith) Tonc, Louis (Madaline) Tonc, and brother-in-law, Clyde Zorn, all Helper, Utah; also many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and step-father, Tony Tonc; sisters, Tillie Yelenich, Annie Lipich, Julia Zorn; one grandson, Peter Sluga.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 13, 2000, at 10 a.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 3580 West 3650 South, West Valley City. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary 8090 So. State Thursday starting at 6 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Friday from 8:45-9:45 a.m. Interment, Midvale City Cemetery.
