Phyllis Ilene (McCurdy) Johnson,

87, of Brownsburg, formerly of Boone County, passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis, while surrounded by her family and best friend. She was born Aug. 9, 1929, in Boone County, to the now late William Benjamin and Alcie (Smith) McCurdy.

On Nov. 16, 1950, she was married to Carlos Everett Black in Boone County. They later divorced. She then married David William Johnson on Aug. 25, 1967, in Boone County. He preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 1997.

Phyllis was a 1947 graduate of Pinnell High School. She had lived in Boone and Hendricks counties.

Phyllis had volunteered at Witham Memorial Hospital for over 10 years. She was a faithful member of Calvary Methodist Church in Brownsburg. As a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, she loved her family dearly. Her hobbies included bowling, playing euchre and bingo, crocheting and watching her grandkids play sports.

Survivors include three children, Juanita Black of Los Alamitos, Calif., Carlos Black Jr. and wife, Jo, of Gifford, Ill., and Julie Wacasey of Brownsburg;
four stepchildren, Wayne Johnson and wife, Rhissa, of Brownsburg, Sandy Isenhour and husband, Jerry, of Brownsburg, Steve Johnson and wife, Michele, of Lebanon and Dave Johnson and wife, Patty, of Lebanon; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; 12 stepgrandchildren; 25 stepgreat-grandchildren; five stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and special friend, Lyle Edenburn.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by four siblings, William Benjamin McCurdy Jr., Pauline Gatton, Glena Colombel and Charlie McCurdy; a grandchild, Brian Black; and four stepgrandchildren, Jenny Isenhour, Amy Isenhour, Angie Jones and Lindsay Johnson.

Memorials may be made in her honor to Calvary Methodist Church, 575 W. Northfield Dr., Brownsburg, IN 46112.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will begin at noon Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Todd Outcalt officiating. Interment will follow at the Johnson Family Cemetery near Fayette.
