Ruth Lorene Overholtzer Hopkins Myers was born August 23, 1908 on a farm six miles north of Leon, Iowa in the Fairview Community. Her parents were John Christian and Eunice Varner Overholtzer. Ruth received her education in the Fairview rural school and Leon High School. She confessed her faith when she was 12 and became a member of the Fairview Methodist Church. She was secretary of the Decatur County Sunday School Association for several years and secretary of the Iowa Sunday School Association for 10 years. She moved to Osceola, Iowa in 1935 and later moved her parents there. She was employed at JC Penney, Snowden, Inc. and the last 13 years before moving to Leon, was cashier at General Telephone Company.
She married John Hopkins on January 7, 1945. He proceeded her in death April 2, 1961. She then married Dr. Joseph D. Myers on April 19, 1964. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1980. She lived the remainder of her life in Leon where she died June 21, 2003.
Ruth was a member of Loving Chapel United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine of Jerusalem, in Leon.
