Obituary
Mrs. C.W.(Oma Nichols)Bayless has received word of the death of her uncle, Thomas Douglas Nichols, who resided here many years ago and will be remembered by the old settlers here. His obituary in his home paper in Whiting, Iowa, follows:

Thomas Douglas Nichols was born in Cedar county, Mo., on November 15, 1855. Died Oct. 2, 1928, at the age of 72 years, 10 months, 2 weeks and 2 days. Mr. Nichols was staying at the home of his son, John L., near Smithland, Iowa at the time of his death, which was caused by an attack of heart trouble.
He was united in marriage in the year 1883 to Mary Belle Kesner, who preceded him in death 13 years ago. Mr. Nichols is survived by four children; Lawrence O., of Boise, Idaho; Mrs. M.M. Moore, of Los Angeles, Calif.; John L., of Smithland, Ia.; and Vernon L., of Sloan. One son, Arthur D. preceded him in death 5 years ago. There are also 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
About the year 1900 he united with the M.E. church at Sloan. The remains were brought to Sloan Tuesday, Oct. 2, and funeral services were held on Tuesday Oct. 4 at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church which were conducted by Rev. Pruitt. Interment was made in the Albaton Cemetery.

Gravesite Details
It appears, "Doug" is buried in Sloan Cemetery, there is not a gravestone. Also his name is not in the cemetery directory. Perhaps he is buried in one of the smaller cemeteries in the area?
