EVANSVILLE — John Yoder, 84, passed into the glory of heaven to be with his Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 after a long illness.

Born in Fort Wayne, he spent his early years as a dairy farmer at his family’s farm.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Greenland as a radio operator during the Korean war. He held a Ph.D. from Purdue University and retired from Miles Laboratory after many years of service as a senior research scientist in Elkhart.

John’s joy and love was for Christ, his family, the church and the downtrodden.

He was a “behind the scenes” person, often mowing lawns for widows and secretly performing other tasks for those in need.

He enjoyed teaching Sunday school and leading many prayer groups. John loved sunsets and other “love notes” from God. A resident of Vanderburgh County since 2013, John worshipped at Salem Church of Darmstadt. He formerly attended New Hope Methodist Church in Elkhart.

John is survived by Lois, his wife of 56 years; daughters Lynne Washburne of Evansville and Lora Washburne of Leesburg, VA., who married brothers, Tom and Jim; and nine grandchildren, Ellyn, Anna, Karen, Jenny, Karla, Josiah, Amy, Gideon and Daniel; and a brother, Bill Yoder and his wife, Fran of Fort Wayne.

John was preceded in death my his parents, Dorsa and Hermione Yoder of Fort Wayne.

A celebration of John’s life will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Salem Church of Darmstadt, 14134 Darmstadt Road, Evansville, IN 47725 with Pastor David Peterson officiating.

Friends may visit from 3 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the church.
