Killed by Fall of Rock

The life of Frank Murphy was crushed out yesterday in the D & H No. 3 mines by a fall of rock.

He was employed as a miner and was at work in the face of his chamber, when without any warning a fall of rock occurred killing him instantly. The accident occurred in the forenoon and the body was not recovered for a couple of hours after the accident as there were several tons of rock fell. For a time it was thought Murphy was alive behind the fall and a force of men was put to work at once to rescue him, but when they reached him a couple of hours later he was dead.
Thomas Murphy a brother of the unfortunate man was employed as a laborer and had just left the face of the chamber to eat a lunch and was returning to relieve his brother so that he might take a lunch and as he was returning the fatal fall occurred.

The deceased was 45 years of age and was a highly respected resident of 88 Nesbitt street, Larksville, and his sudden death is deplored by a wide circle of friends.

Frank was survived by the following brothers and sisters; Patrick, Bridget, and Margaret Kelly, at home; Mrs. Joseph Omelko of Larksville; Thomas Murphy, in the West; Mrs. J. Martin and Mrs. John Kennedy both of Pittston.

The funeral will occur on Thursday morning at 9 o'clock from his late home on Nesbitt street, with a high mass of requiem at St. Vincent's Church at 9:00.
