Catherine Ann Powers passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016, joining her love, and continuing their love story forever. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Saturday in the Itasca Cemetery. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday, following the graveside service, at the First United Methodist Church, 401 E. Main Street in Itasca. Visitation: 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home, 505 E. Main Street in Itasca, (254)687-2371. The family will be present early for anyone who wants to pay their respects directly to the family. Weighing in at only two lbs., on January 13, 1932, Catherine Ann was born to Thomas Bass and Vinnie Louise Beard Averre, in Beaumont. She was always strong and determined. Her parents cherished their only child!! She was a performing dancer for many years, starting as a young girl. Her parents made sure she never wanted for anything. Ann met the love of her life, Forrest William Powers Jr., on a blind date while attending Baylor University. Forrest was going through pilot training. They married Nov. 2, 1952; her love has been with God since 2000. Together they had two daughters, Cynthia Powers DeBord, married to Walt DeBord and Catherine Powers Boothman, married to John Boothman. Ann was one fantastic wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She could cook like no other and was a passionate stay-at-home mom. Anyone that knew her always came back for seconds on her pies!! The Itasca Garden Club was one of the many passions she enjoyed. Ann was a long-time member of the Itasca First United Methodist Church and served as church secretary. Later in life, she decided to hit the work force and was a hardworking and loyal secretary to the Itasca ISD superintendent. She moved to White Bluff with Forrest in 1995 and loved being a teacher's aide in Whitney. Retiring and moving to a North Richland Hills retirement community, she cherished her 15 years with many friends but especially times helping her granddaughter Nichole and her great-grandchildren. Gee always wanted to do for everyone!! She was a woman with many names: Ann, Mom, Mother, Annie Rooney (lifetime friend Lambie's favorite), Aunt Ann, Granny and Gee are all names said in love. Her grandchildren meant everything to her. Wes, Blaine, Nichole, Gary and Averre gave her so much joy, then grandson, Will, joined the family! Ann always lit up when any of them were around. Along with the 11 great-grandchildren her grandchildren gave her, she was so very blessed with the love of their spouses and nephews. It broke our hearts to lose her, but she didn't go alone. For part of us went with her the day God called her home.
