Mary Louise Townsend Murrie was born on July 4, 1926 in a farmhouse in Boynton, OK to Edna Lee Henderson Townsend and James E Townsend. Mary was married to John Frederick Murrie in 1951. Fred preceded her in death in 1986 after 35 years of marriage. Mary had 7 brothers and sisters. Mary graduated from Liberty Schools and worked at Tinker Air Force with her sister, Rozella, during WWII. Mary worked for the Muskogee Public Schools cafeteria starting as a dishwasher and working up to manager at West Junior High under the direction of Juanita Adams. She was a faithful member of West Side Church of Christ, where she had her own ministry of sending cards to her church family for every occasion, birthday, get well, and bereavement. Preceding her in death are her parents, Edna and James; sisters, Fern Gilfillan, Rozella Taylor; brothers, Virgil Townsend, Richard Townsend, and Gene Townsend. Funeral services honoring Mary’s life will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum with Minister Don Readhimer officiating.
