"Mrs. Martha Darner, wife of Austin Darner, died last Thursday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Null, two and one-half miles north of Hillsdale. Mrs. Darner was 38 years of age. She was the eldest daughter of James Weaver, deceased. She was born in McLean county, Illinois, moving to this county where she resided till her death. She was an earnest Christian, a member of the Presbyterian church, with which she united at this place some twenty-five years ago. She leaves a husband and two children, two sisters and one brother. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Headen. The remains were interred in the Hillsdale cemetery."

Mattie's five children were from her first husband, William Alexander Adams, who died Aug. 31, 1887. Her children were: Chaney C. Adams; Horace B. Adams; Essie Maud Adams; James A. Adams; and Joseph Gilbert Adams.
