James Peck Carver was born on a bright and sunny fall day in Roy, New Mexico on October 8, 1931. He was born to Opal Chester Carver and Minnie Marie Carver. He graduated from Albuquerque High School and the University of New Mexico. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge. On July 6, 1957, he married Jeanene Standfier in La Mesa Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They had three children: Michael, Julia, and Linda. James and Jeanene were happily married for over fifty years. James worked for the Federal Highway Administration for forty years from 1963-2003. He worked on the fourth floor of the Murrah Building and survived the bombing on April 19, 1995. James Carver is preceded in death by his mother and father; sister Elizabeth Romero; brother Robert Carver; and granddaughter Judith Marissa Carver. James is survived by his loving wife Jeanene Standfier Carver; son Michael Carver and his wife Diane; daughter Julia Armstrong and her husband Edward, and daughter; Linda Sanders and her husband Terry. James is also survived by eight grandchildren: Grant Sanders, Jacob Carver, Jennifer Carver, Leyna Sears, Scott Sears, Jeffrey Carver, Zachary Armstrong, and Claire Armstrong, as well as one great-grandchild, Kamryn Allen. James was well known for his honesty and fairness to everyone. His friends, family, and co-workers all respected and admired him. He was always caring and loving to his entire family and was never one to judge. James enjoyed watching basketball, baseball, and football, whether on television or at his children's or grandchildren's games. James could eat at Braums every day. He loved their hamburgers and ice cream and that is something his entire family knew him by. He always made everyone feel good about themselves and made it known he was proud of them. Most of all, James Carver was a good man. He took care of his family and was always there for them, through thick and thin. He will be dearly missed and is loved unconditionally by his friends and family forever. Although, with heavy hearts, we must say good-bye. We know that James feels wonderful and is very happy. We know we will see him again and until then, will cherish the time we were able to spend with him and the memories he left with us. We love you. James Peck Carver passed away at his home in Edmond, Oklahoma on December 4, 2006. The family would like to express their gratitude to Joe Peeler, the nurses of Choice Hospice, and the many friends who called and visited offering their support. Services will be held at Crown Heights United Methodist Church, Friday, December 8, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Committal to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. A celebration of James' life will be held at the home of Ed and Julie Armstrong: 621 NW 38th St. following the committal. Published in The Oklahoman on 12/7/2006.
