TREMONTON - Jim requested that his obituary read, “I died.” The family wishes to say the following: Our loving husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, great-great grandpa, uncle and friend, James Townsend Palmer Jr., passed away peacefully at his home on June 29, 2016.

Jim was born on Sept. 27, 1930, to James Townsend Palmer (Tom) and Ethel Hatch in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jim graduated from Bear River High School in 1949.

After Jim was married to Ruth Price in 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Alaska, serving during the Korean Conflict. They were later divorced.

Jim was a farmer and ranch hand in Nevada, Oregon and Idaho. Later he returned home to Tremonton, Utah, and worked for Thiokol for many years. During this time he married Elaine Madsen in 1974. They were later solemnized in the Ogden temple.

Jim loved shoeing horses, breaking horses, 4-H showing steers and horses, competing in rodeos and cutter racing. He loved the life of ranching. In his heart he was always a cowboy.

Jim was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Jim is preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Palmer; parents; brother Ned; sister Ann Hansen; granddaughter Mary Palmer.

Jim is survived by his wife, Elaine Madsen Palmer, nine children: Ted James (Ann), Weston, Idaho, Carolyn, West Haven, Utah, David Townsend, Hong Kong, Janice, Ogden, Utah, Margaret (Dwayne) Davies, Duchesne, Utah, Rob, Lake Havasu, Ariz., Steven Paul Chip, Pocatello, Idaho, Chad Aaron (Julie), Bear River City, Utah, Victoria Lynne, MI, 34 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016, in the Bear River 1st ward building, 5870 North 4700 West at 11 a.m. Viewings will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, from 6 - 8 p.m., at the church and again on Thursday from 10 - 10:40 a.m.

Interment will be in the Bear River Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans of Box Elder County.
