Born in Marion on Sept. 22, 1910, to Victor F. and Maude (Heist) Mahaffey, he married the former Ruth Cook on May 25, 1932, and she preceded him in death on June 12, 1999.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bob Mahaffey, and three sisters, Helen Andrews, Betty Mahaffey and Martha Josephine Mahaffey.
Carl had been employed by GTE as a custodian.
Surviving are his three sons, Victor W. (Phyllis) Mahaffey and Wesley D. (Leatha) Mahaffey, both of Marion, and C. Louis (Janet) Mahaffey of Logan; his daughter, Mrs. Lance (Ruby) Firestone of Marion; two brothers, Henry (Francis) Mahaffey of Prospect and Wayne (Diana) Mahaffey of Westerville; five sisters, Esther (Earl) Cottrill, Virginia Myers, Iona Shipman, Ruth (Orville) Campbell and Glenna Mae Davis, all of Marion; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Hughes-Allen Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Boothe officiating. Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
