Josephine “Jo“ Briarton, age 94, of Elgin and former resident of Carpentersville for over 56 years passed away on Tuesday evening, August 30, 2016 surrounded by her family at her home at the Vines of Countryside in Elgin. Jo was born in Chicago on March 18, 1922 and was the only daughter and one of three children born to Anton & Lorraine Brodtke. On March 6, 1943, Jo married the love of her life Joseph W. “Joe“ Briarton. Joe preceded Jo in death on November 8, 1972 after 29 years of marriage. Jo was a former longtime and active member of the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Carpentersville and currently a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin. Jo worked as a typesetter in the Newspaper publishing industry and for over 20 years and had worked at both the Free Press and the Northwest Herald prior to retirement. Jo was a former longtime and active member of the Dundee Township Senior Citizens Organization and a member of the 50+ Club. Survivors include her children: Joseph W., Jr. (Mary) Briarton, Barbara J. (Donald) Fischer and Steven M. (Lori) Briarton. Jo is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and many good and faithful friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Jo was preceded in death by her brothers: William Brodtke and Delbert Noffke. Family and friends will gather for Funeral Services at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday Sept. 6, 2016 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 357 Division St, Elgin. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East Cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be held from Noon – 5:00 P.M. on Monday at Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and again on Tuesday morning at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Elgin.
