The death of Mrs. Rachel Ramey Alkire occurred at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Ruth Miller, West Lafayette, Ind., January 14th. The body was brought immediately to Francesville to the Burson Funeral Home and later to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mabelle Burget, with whom she had made her home for the past few years. Mrs. Alkire was born in White county, in Indiana, the daughter of Samuel and Nancy Ramey, 86 years ago, May 15th, 1852. She was the fourth daughter of a family of seven girls and one boy, all who have preceded her in death. She was married to Rasmus Alkire in 1875 and to this union were born five children: Ross Alkire of Oklahoma City; Clair Alkire of Westville, Ind.; Mabelle Alkire Burget of Francesville; Ethel Alkire Anderson, deceased; John Alkire, deceased. Mr. Alkire preceded her in death 15 years ago. She had been a resident of Francesville for 38 years, having moved here from White County with her family in 1900. Mrs. Alkire was a highly esteemed and cultured lady, whose greatest interest in life was to do good, to hold up, and maintain the highest standard of living. She had long been a member of the Christian church since early married life. She leaves three children, 22 grandchildren and 4 great grand-children, a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. Van Orman officiating. Burial in the Francesville cemetery.
