I. H. Herbert - Isaac H. Herbert, son of Rev. Jesse R. and Patsy Herbert, was born August 4, 1853 at Iowa City, Iowa, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clyde Cummings in Bedford, on Sunday, Sept. 18, 1938, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 14 days. He was the last of a family of nine children to go.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. D. Thomas, with Rev. W. F. Overhulser assisting. Burial was in the Hopkins cemetery.

When three years of age he came to this community with his parents and spent all of his life here with the exception of a few years spent in Kansas and Missouri.

In the year 1876 he was married to Matilda E.[veline] Townsend. To them were born three children, Mrs. Pearl Whicker of Lamar, Mo., Mrs. Clyde Cummings of Bedford and [Walter] Roy Herbert of Mount Ayr.

Surviving are the three children, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mrs. Herbert died in Sept. 1932.

He united with the Methodist church when a young man and was always in his place at church as long as his health permitted.
