From Illinois Deaths and Stillbirth Index 1916-1947, Thomas Baxter was born Apr 1, 1845 in Yorkshire, England, had arrived in the United States in 1860 and been a resident of Knox County for six years. He died on Oct 3, 1925 at Galesburg, age 80 years; his burial was on Oct 5, 1925 in Bryant, Illinois. Evidently there is no marker as he does not appear in cemetery indexes for Maryville Cemetery. He was a Retired Coal Miner and his surviving spouse was Ella Baxter.

Thomas and Martha Isabelle Melton were married on January 9, 1869 in Fulton County, Illinois, probably in or near the village of Bryant. She was the mother of all his children: Charlotte Lenore ‘Lottie,’ Sarah Jennie, Charles A., Harry Thomas, William A., Stella Elizabeth, Rosie I., and Gertrude M. ‘Gertie’ Baxter.

Following Martha’s death in 1908, Thomas married to Ella Lee, probably in 1909 as they are counted together in the 1910 census.
