Rebecca Louise (Murchison) McWherter, 65, of the No. 7 community, died August 22, 2016, at her home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at White-Ranson Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Sams officiating. Burial will follow in Stanley Chapel Cemetery near Union City.

The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Holt, Waldrup Dowdy, Phil Brannon, Ken Mason, Rob McKnight, Aaron Moody, Shane Turner, Larry Brewer, Dick Tidwell, Randy Coleman, Sam Vise, Johnny Duncan, Bobby King, Danny Cook, Ellis Cochran, Joe Bavido, Glenn Pate and Finis Wagster.

The family requests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association at 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311.

She was born September 6, 1950, in Jackson, daughter of the late Turner Bryan and Edith Rebecca (Mainord) Murchison. She married Steve McWherter July 10, 1976. He survives.

She was a 1968 graduate of South Side High School in Jackson and a 1972 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin. She was a retired school teacher who had been employed in Huntingdon and at the former Rives Elementary School. Following her retirement, she assisted her husband on the family dairy farm. She was a member of Martin First Baptist Church.

Mrs. McWherter is also survived by two daughters and her son-in-law, Jeannie and Patrick Rogers of Rives and Jennifer McWherter of Union City; her son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Shannon McWherter of Martin; five grandchildren, Chloe Peevyhouse, Carter Peevyhouse and Evie Rogers, all of Rives, and Kohen McWherter and Brigham McWherter, both of Martin; and her brother, Bill Murchison of Albuquerque, N.M.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jean Paschall; and her brother, John Murchison.
