The Bastrop Advertiser, Bastrop, Tex. 9-5-1903: On Wednesday last the 8-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Haynie, of Smithville, was drowned in the Colorado river near that city. A party were on the river fishing and the little girl, with others, was wading in the river, when she struck water over her depth and was drowned before assistance could reach her. The lifeless body was rescued from its watery grave and buried Thursday morning, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Haynie, of Bastrop, attended the funeral
